STUDENT TRAINEESHIP MOBILITY

Student Traineeship Mobility refers to a higher education student undertaking a traineeship abroad in an enterprise, research institute, laboratory, institution, or organization related to their academic field of study. Attending courses at a higher education institution does not qualify as a traineeship.

The activity duration ranges between 2 and 12 months for each study cycle separately. Traineeship activities may be carried out during the period of study at any academic level and by final-year students within 12 months after graduation. For post-graduation traineeships, the application must be submitted before graduation (while the applicant is still an associate, undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral student). Graduated students are not eligible to apply. Post-graduation traineeships must be completed within 12 months from the graduation date. For new graduates called to compulsory military service within this period, the duration of military service will be added to the 12‑month maximum period. The combined duration of post-graduation traineeship mobility and mobility carried out at the same study cycle may not exceed 12 months.

EXAMPLES OF ELIGIBLE TRAINEESHIP HOST ORGANIZATIONS

Any public or private sector organization established in one of the countries eligible for traineeship activities and active in the labor market or in the fields of education, training, youth, research, and development may serve as a host institution. Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Small, medium-sized, or large enterprises in the public or private sector
  • Local, regional, or national public institutions
  • Embassies or consulates of the sending country abroad
  • Chambers of commerce, chambers of tradesmen and craftsmen, stock exchanges, and unions
  • Research institutes
  • Foundations
  • Schools/institutes/educational centers (from preschool to upper secondary education, including vocational and adult education)
  • Non-profit institutions, associations, and NGOs
  • Institutions providing career planning, professional consultancy, and information services
  • Higher education institutions (institutions in Programme Countries must hold an ECHE; institutions in non‑Programme Countries must be recognized by a competent authority under national legislation and must have signed an interinstitutional agreement with the sending institution before the traineeship activity)
  • The following organizations are not eligible under Erasmus+ higher education traineeship mobility:
  • European Union institutions and EU agencies
  • Organizations managing EU programmes, such as National Agencies

The suitability of the traineeship institution and programme with the student’s registered degree programme will be evaluated by the Erasmus coordinator of the relevant department

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicants for Associate Degree/Undergraduate Traineeship Mobility must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.20/4.00. Applicants at the Master’s or Doctoral level must have a minimum GPA of 2.50/4.00.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

The evaluation criteria and weighted scores for the 2026–2027 Academic Year applications are as follows:

* Internships that involve one or more of the following activities are considered eligible under this scope: digital marketing (e.g., social media management, web analytics), digital design, mechanical and architectural design; application, software, code or website development; installation, maintenance and management of IT systems and networks, cybersecurity, data analytics, data mining and visualization; programming, robotics, and artificial intelligence training. General customer service, request handling, data entry, or routine office tasks are not included within this scope.

NOTE: Deductions are applied to the student’s total score.

If the total scores calculated based on all criteria are equal, priority will be given to the student with the higher academic achievement grade. If the academic achievement grades are also equal, priority will be given to the student in the upper class level within the same grade category. If all students are in the same class, the younger student will be given priority.

Students participating in Erasmus+ Traineeship Mobility must complete their traineeship no later than 31 July 2027.

Required Application Documents

  • Application Form (generated by the system). The application form must include a photograph.
  • Candidates who have a foreign language proficiency certificate must upload the relevant documents to the system. Valid results from YDS, KPDS, ÜDS, TOEFL, and YÖKDİL exams are accepted. The foreign language exam equivalency table must also be uploaded to the system together with the certificate.
  • Official Transcript
  • Internship Placement Invitation/Acceptance Letter (if available). Students who upload their internship invitation/acceptance letter to the system before completing the application (by 13.07.2026) will receive an additional +10 (ten) points added to their final Erasmus evaluation score.

Applications of students who do not upload the required documents to the Erasmus application system will be considered invalid.

Students who encounter technical issues must report the problem during the application stage by email to erasmus@isikun.edu.tr, including a screenshot (proof) of the issue.

Post-Selection Process

Students who are entitled to participate in the mobility must obtain an acceptance letter from the host institution, prepare a Learning Agreement for Traineeship, and submit the required documents to the Erasmus Office within the announced deadlines. Detailed information about the process will be provided after the announcement of the results.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

1. Erasmus+ Traineeship Mobility is valid only for the Fall and Spring semesters of the 2026–2027 Academic Year. Students may not defer their mobility to the following academic year. Students wishing to benefit from Erasmus mobility in a subsequent academic year must submit a new application for the Erasmus+ Traineeship Mobility programme of the relevant academic year.

2. A student who has previously participated in a study or traineeship mobility activity in a prior academic year may participate again, provided that the total duration of all Erasmus mobility activities (previous and planned), including both study and traineeship mobility, does not exceed 12 months per study cycle.

3. Within the scope of Traineeship Mobility, it is not mandatory for the host institution to have an inter-institutional agreement with our University. However, students may also contact institutions with which our University already has a bilateral agreement.

4. The list of Erasmus Departmental/Faculty Coordinators can be accessed through the link provided below.

Grant Support

The grant amounts indicated are subject to the budget allocated by the National Agency and are therefore not guaranteed. They may change depending on the final budget allocated to our University.

Within the scope of Erasmus+ Traineeship Mobility, students announced as “ADMITTED” (ASİL)" candidates will be eligible to receive a grant for 2 (two) months and travel support, provided that the conditions specified in the Erasmus+ Programme Guide are met. If they wish, students may continue their traineeship activities beyond the initial two-month period as zero-grant (non-funded) participants.

To ensure a fair distribution of grants, priority will be given to:

  1. Departments/programmes whose students have not previously participated in a mobility activity,
  2. Faculties with a higher number of English-medium programmes,
  3. Faculties/Vocational Schools with a larger number of departments/programmes,
  4. Faculties with a higher number of students.

Under the Grant Agreement signed between the National Agency and our University, it is estimated that a total of 2 (two) funded participants from Associate Degree, Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, and Doctoral programmes will be supported within the framework of traineeship mobility.

Grant quotas are not allocated separately to individual academic units (Faculties, Institutes, or Schools). Placements will be made based on the criteria mentioned above.

Following the announcement of the results, if a student who has been awarded a funded mobility place withdraws from their grant entitlement, the grant will be transferred to the next eligible student, taking into account the students’ total score after evaluation criteria.

Erasmus+ Student Traineeship Mobility – Grant Deduction Rules

The mobility period must be carried out without interruption. In traineeship mobility, the traineeship may be interrupted if the host organization is closed due to holidays. The period during which the organization is closed is still eligible for grant support. To ensure that the minimum activity duration requirement is met, students should investigate in advance the dates on which the host organization will be closed and make sure that the minimum duration requirement is satisfied even after deducting any holiday periods. Weekend breaks are not considered holiday periods to be deducted from the mobility duration.

The following criteria regarding grant reimbursement and/or deductions will apply to students:

  1. In all cases, students will receive a grant only for the actual physical mobility period completed, provided that the amount does not exceed the grant specified in the grant agreement. If, after the mobility, documents proving participation in the mobility (such as the Certificate of Attendance, passport stamps, travel documents, etc.) are not completed or submitted by the announced deadlines, the entire grant paid will be reclaimed.
  2. In accordance with the rules set out in the National Agency’s Handbook, students who fail to complete the EU Participant Survey will be subject to a 20% deduction from their total eligible grant amount.
  3. If the mobility period is shorter than the minimum required duration (2 full months), no grant will be paid for the mobility. Except in cases of force majeure, if students return before completing the minimum duration, the mobility activity will be considered invalid. If the actual mobility period is shorter than the originally planned funded period and the first payment exceeds the amount calculated for the final mobility duration, the excess amount must be refunded by the student.

In cases where students are required to terminate their mobility early due to compelling reasons (such as family-related issues, health problems, natural disasters, etc.), they must inform the Erasmus Office in advance. Approval as to whether the situation constitutes a compelling reason will be obtained by the University from the National Agency. If the situation is accepted as a compelling reason, students may retain the grant corresponding to the period they actually spent abroad, while any excess grant payment must be refunded.

If students voluntarily terminate their mobility shortly after it begins (before completing the minimum 2-month period) without a compelling reason, any grant already paid to them will be fully recovered.

Monthly Grant Amounts by Country

The monthly grant amounts applicable to each country group are provided below.

Grant payments are made in two installments. The first payment corresponds to 80% of the total Erasmus+ grant. The payment of the second installment is subject to the student’s completion of all required procedures and obligations.

Travel Support Calculations

To contribute to students’ travel expenses, the distance between the point of departure and the location where the mobility activity takes place is calculated using the distance calculator provided by the European Commission. The travel grant is then determined according to the table below. The grant amount corresponding to the distance band identified by the calculator represents the total amount for a round trip (outbound and return travel). Therefore, the amount specified in the table should not be multiplied by two.

Green Travel

Green travel refers to travel carried out using low-carbon-emission means of transportation. Travel by bus, train, and car-sharing services is considered green travel. To be eligible for Green Travel Support, participants must use green transportation methods for both their outbound and return journeys. In addition, more than half of the total travel distance must be completed using green means of transportation

Short-term PhD mobility grants:

Inclusion Support

The Erasmus+ Programme encourages the participation of individuals with fewer opportunities. A person with fewer opportunities is defined as a potential participant whose personal physical, mental, or health condition would prevent them from participating in the project/mobility activity without additional financial support.

A specific procedure must be followed in order for a student requiring Inclusion Support to receive an additional grant. (Please refer to the Erasmus+ Programme Guide 2025 for detailed information.)

Requests for Erasmus+ Inclusion Support must include a clear explanation of why the support is needed, together with supporting documentation. For example, if the request is related to a disability, applicants must submit either a medical report (issued within the last three months) containing information on the nature and degree of the disability, or a copy of the disability identification card. For chronic illnesses, a medical report must be provided.

Additional Grant Support

Additional grant support may be provided to disadvantaged participants in addition to the grant amount to which they are entitled. For the purposes of this support, a disadvantaged participant is defined as an individual with limited economic and social opportunities who falls into one of the following categories:

  1. Individuals who are currently or have previously been subject to Law No. 2828 (those for whom a protection, care, or sheltering decision has been issued by the Ministry of Family and Social Services pursuant to Law No. 2828).
  2. Students who are currently or have previously been subject to a protection, care, or sheltering decision under Law No. 5395 on Child Protection.
  3. Individuals receiving an orphan’s pension or survivor’s pension.
  4. Children of martyrs or veterans.
  5. Individuals who receive, or whose family receives, social assistance allowances. (It is sufficient to submit a document proving that the student, their parents, or legal guardian is receiving financial support from municipalities, public institutions, or organizations such as ministries, Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundations, the General Directorate of Foundations, the Turkish Red Crescent, AFAD, or similar bodies at the time of the Erasmus application.)
  6. Individuals with disabilities.
  7. Students whose parent or legal guardian receives a disability or social assistance pension under Law No. 2022 of 01.07.1976 on Granting Monthly Allowances to Needy, Destitute, and Unaccompanied Turkish Citizens Aged 65 and Over, as well as Disabled and Needy Turkish Citizens.
  8. Individuals who themselves, or whose first-degree relatives (biological or step relatives), receive disaster assistance from AFAD.

Scholarships provided by the Credit and Dormitories Institution (KYK), as well as similar scholarships, merit-based scholarships, grants, financial aid, and one-time assistance payments, are not considered within the scope of the financial support referred to above.

Students who fall within the categories listed above may, upon request and provided that they submit the necessary supporting documentation, receive Additional Grant Support within the limits of the available budget. The amount of support will vary according to the type of mobility activity, as specified below.
