International students who will be studying in an English program must demonstrate their English proficiency either by:
- Attending the Işık University English Proficiency Exams, or
- Submitting an accepted score from one of the official exams recognized by Işık University (see the list below).
Upcoming English Proficiency Exams
We will hold two exam sessions for new international students at the Şile Campus on the following dates:
- Session 1: September 8, 9, and 11
- Session 2: September 23 and 24
If you do not have an accepted exam score, you must attend one of these sessions.

Session 1:
English Placement Exam
- Date/time: September 8 / 10:00
- Location: SFL Building
- Date/time: September 9 / 09:30-15:00
- Location: SFL Building
English Proficiency Exam – Written Part
English Proficiency Exam – Speaking Part
- September 11
- Online via MS Teams (approx. 10 minutes) (Check your Işık email)
Session 2:
English Placement Exam
- Date/time: September 23 / 10:00
- Location: SFL Building
- Date/time: September 23 / 14:00
- Location: SFL Building
English Proficiency Exam – Speaking Part
English Proficiency Exam – Written Part
- Date/time: September 24 / 09:30-15:00
- Location: SFL Building
About the Exams
- English Placement Exam (75 minutes)
- Tests grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension.
- Passing grade: 55/80.
- Students who pass continue to the Proficiency Exam; those who do not are placed in the Preparatory Program.
- English Proficiency Exam (approx. 4 hours)
- Tests reading, listening, writing, and speaking skills.
- Passing grade: 70%.
- Students who do not pass will attend the English Preparatory Program.
Exemptions
You may be exempt from the exams and Preparatory Program if you:
- Hold one of the following valid certificates (only from university exam centers):
- TOEFL PBT: 560
- TOEFL CBT: 220
- TOEFL IBT: 80
- YDS/e-YDS/ÜDS: 70
- PTE Academic: 71
Validity: TOEFL & PTE – 2 years; YDS/e-YDS/ÜDS – 5 years.
- Completed the last 3 years of high school in English in an English-speaking country (Pakistan, India, Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya, USA, UK, Australia, Canada).
- Please send your high school documents and your passport copy for verification.
