At Isık University the majority of academic programmes are conducted in English. Besides English, the University offers its students the opportunity to acquire a second language as Spanish, German, Italian, French, Russian and Japanese.

The primary purpose of the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) is to develop and strengthen the academic English language skills for the students who will study in an EMI programme at the University. The students have opportunity to learn another language after English. An additional language provides students with Basic-User level (A1.1-A1.2) in target language. The intent of the FL Programme is to teach basic level of the foreign language to Isik University undergraduate students who study at the Şile campus. All courses are considered as electives and they can be taken two semesters: fall/spring; but some courses are also offered in summer semester.

The elective foreign languages are only available in elementary level (A1), divided into 1101 and 1102 courses; it means if the students intend to reach the level A1 they must study both courses together: 1101 & 1102.  The sections are composed of 4 hour classes a week, total 56 hours for the entire semester. This consists of 4x 50 minutes lesson periods, generally separated over two days. The ELP is designed to help students develop the basic (A1.1/A1.2) foreign language skills. All skills are practiced in class throughout the semester. The ELP course curriculum, syllabi, materials and assessments are designed by the ELP instructors and specifically designed to meet the needs of students. All aspects of courses are reviewed and revised each semester by the ELP Coordinator.
