Economics is the study of how society decides what, how and for whom to produce. Microeconomic analysis offers a detailed treatment of how households, firms and government make decisions and how they interact in specific markets. Because changes in the overall economy arise from the decisions of millions of individuals, it is impossible to understand macroeconomic developments without considering the associated microeconomic decisions. The aim of this course is to present economics as a serious, lively, and evolving science. The goal is to open students' eyes to the "economic way of thinking", and to help them gain insights into how economy works, and how it might be made to work better.
