May 19 Celebrated with Enthusiasm

Işık University celebrated the 103rd anniversary of May 19, 1919, which is the day when Mustafa Kemal Atatürk set foot in Samsun and initiated the War of Independence, and the Youth and Sports Day with an online event. The event began with a moment of silence and the national anthem, followed by opening speeches by the Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Bülent Kahraman and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees Mehmet Serdar Sarıgül. The President of the Atatürk Thought Club, Emine Dal, and the Deans of the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Faculty of Art, Design, and Architecture, and the Director of Graduate Education Institute, Prof. Dr. Rabia Karakaya Polat, each gave a speech highlighting the significance of May 19.

In his message to the university for the Youth and Sports Day, Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Bülent Kahraman emphasized that May 19, 1919, was the first step taken by Mustafa Kemal Pasha and his comrades under challenging conditions, which brought us to where Turkey is today. He also mentioned that Mustafa Kemal Pasha carried the "national secret" in his conscience, which led him to establish the modern Republic of Turkey through wars and revolutions. On this day, which marks the lighting of the biggest fire of Anatolian enlightenment, he respectfully commemorated Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the hero's comrades, and revolutionaries, along with the young people who are the great hope of the nation and the students of FMV Işık University, who are carrying the torch of enlightenment towards the future.
