Required Criteria and Documents

Step 1:
  • Candidates should find out about institutions/ departments that Işık University has ongoing agreements.
  • General information on agreements and updated information on quotas and application requirements can be reached from:

  • Candidates should check for the programs and courses offered at partner institutions and learn about the availability of courses that would match with their programs and interests.
  • Candidates should consult their advisers and departmental coordinators for the approval of their selected courses. Please see list of departmental coordinators below:
    Exchange Coordinators
  • Candidates should apply in accordance with the pre-announced deadlines. Students are also advised to take the required exams on time in order to get their results before the application deadlines.
  • Candidates should be full-time students (1st year students are not eligible to attend),
  • Min. GPA for candidacy is 2.20/4.00,
  • Candidates who are accepted as exchange students pay their tuition at their home institutions as usual and are exempt from tuition at the partner (host) institution. (This excludes the universities at the USA). However, they are responsible for transportation to and from the partner university and for all living costs and personal expenses during their stay.
Step 2:
  • Candidates should apply to the International Office with a completed application package based on the host institution requirements within the announced deadlines.

  • Işık University must preselect and nominate the candidates who satisfy the pre-announced selection criteria,
Step 3:

After the Nomination

  • The students must confirm participation in the program by sending an e-mail as well as signing a contract form. (taahhütname)
  • If an applicant has been nominated to study abroad, he/she should:
    • know about the exchange student procedures and deadlines of relevant institutions/departments,
    • print and complete host institutions' application form,
    • print and complete academic and financial papers for nominated exchange students and get them signed by the authorized representatives.
    • act according to the rules and regulations of the partner (host) institution while studying abroad.
    • obtain a health insurance policy which is applicable in the country they wish to study. Health insurance expenses are paid by the students.
    • If the student is interested in university private dorm, relevant forms should be attached to the application materials on time. Please apply early and in time as it may get difficult to find the desired accommodation.
  • Step 4:
    • Host institution evaluates your application.
    • Once your application is accepted, acceptance letter will be issued by the host institution.

    After Receiving the "Acceptance" letter:

    • Students should find out about the final course schedule at partner institutions through the hosting international office. After identifying the classes of their interest, students should again contact their academic advisers/departmental coordinators from both institutions in order to finalize their programs.
    • It is at utmost importance that accepted students learn about the availability of courses, discuss these with their advisers and prepare "Learning Agreements" before their departure. When they arrive at the host institution, students should make sure that Learning Agreements are finalized and agreed by both institutions within one month of the start of Academic Year. Any change in this Agreement must be approved by both the home and the host institutions as well as the student.
    • Students are responsible for completion of the visa procedures. International Office will assist in obtaining relevant information and documentation.
    • Students must keep in touch with the International Office regarding departure and other pending issues.
    Step 5:
    • Accepted students must complete and sign the Course Transfer Table, the Learning Agreement and the Commitment Letter and file it with the International Office.
