English Speaking Skills

This course aims to discuss political, social, cultural and economic transformations in the 19th century in their relation with the formation of the Republican Turkey and focuses on the modernization process in the early republican period until 1945.

Design elements: point, line, plane, space, texture, color, light, form and movement. Design principles: repetition, harmony, scale, proportion, balance, rhythm, continuity, complexity, dominance. Visual perception and perceptual psychology. Proximity and similarity. Visual creativity. Spatial organization and space geometry in two and three dimensional studies. Analysis of natural and artificial environment. Figurative knowledge: point, line, contour drawing, and drawing of movement. Knowledge of color and psychological effects of color.

The interior architectural drawing and presentation techniques. Concepts of scale, materials and techniques. International technical drawing techniques and standarts. Drawing techniques in various scale. Sketching and black and white drawing techniques. Introduction to color and color presentation techniques with an emphasis on advanced interior design graphics. Presentation of compositions.

The basic techniques for the idea presentation, visualization and exploration by using CAD software. Interior architectural drawings by using the conventions of technical drawing through CAD.Three dimensional drawing by using different software. Three dimensional modelsof interior design project through rendering. Digital painting techniques.

Introduction to the scope and terminology of interior architecture. Study of the design activity at different scales and levels of space; order and character of places. Design principles and techniques. Analysis of form, structure, use and meaning. Physical and cultural influences on interior architectural form.

Sets of real numbers. Functions, special functions. Symmetry, translations and reflections. Lines. Systems of equations. Exponential and logarithmic functions, properties of logarithms. Limits and continuity. The derivative., Rules for differentiation, Derivatives of logarithmic and exponential functions. Implicit differentiation. Logarithmic differentiation. Academic writing and speaking skills with a focus on organizing a research project involving a proposal, preliminary and ongoing research, annotations, thesis proposal, works cited and an interview to demonstrate the results of their work. Critical thinking, reasoning, logical argumentation, and presentation skills.

Political, social and cultural development of Turkey since WWII. Transition to multi-party system, social transformation in 1960s and 1970s, as well as the demographical change, industrialization and new social movements. The coup d'état of 1980 and its aftermath, political and social polarization in 2000s.

Developing thinking ability, through a creative spatial perception, by folding two-dimensioned plane patterns. Proficiency in considering and defining of spatial scales, using of modular pattern from the planar to volumetric units. Practical proficiency in thinking and using of design tools.

Basic elements and principles for art and design. Manual skills and abilities for different thinking. Developing creativivity in accordance with disciplines such as accuracy, patience and concentration. Methodologies of design thinking and making. Application of computer aided design on interior architectural drawing. Two and three dimensional interior architectural technical drawing. Coloring interior space drawings realised in CAD program and highlighting the visual aspect of the projects by using various techniques.

Illustration of “narration” and its types; writing and communication modes; exemplified by masterspieces chosen from Turkish and world literature; exercises in effective writing and public speech.

Design of living spaces formation and organization within interior architecture framework. Definition of the basic functions of dwellings, assesment of the user's social-cultural profile. Mechanical systems and services integrated with the interior architectural design of the buildings. The building area and service relationships; plumbing for sewage and clean water. Design and selection of mechanical components for the building and sizing of the spatial structures. Air conditioning for heating and cooling systems; support systems; Design of egress for fire and emergency exit. Electrical systems such as lighting, escalators, elevators. Signs and symbols.

The fundamentals of building physics. The basic concepts and techniques in environmental control systems that are necessary for comfort conditions in buildings. Active and passive solar heating systems.-HVAC (Mechanical heating, ventilation, air conditioning and cooling systems). Solar control. Fire control. Specifications.

The historical development of Interior Architecture from ancient time to the 20th Century within the context of geographical, political, psychological, socio-cultural and aesthetic requirements of societies. HSS Elective-I

A living module for a family of two persons and production of the special module by repeating it in horizontal and vertical axes. The requried analyses and the related basic concepts for the design of the buildings and its immediate environment taking in to account the component of the physical environment.

The design and equipment of the public interior spaces that respond to different functions and human needs. The factors which affect the design of these spaces such as the human-environment relations, technology and culture. The preparation of interior space solutions for non-residential buildings and spaces such as hotels, restaurants, offices and stores and other public buildings.

Introduction to measurement and drawing techniques for the determination of the specification of buildings in two and three dimension. Scaled plan, section and elevation drawings of the current situation of the building's interior, exterior architecture, structure and decoration. Field study in real environment.

Integrated building consept for the entire construction system, beginning from the units such as materials and building components. Design principles for vertical and horizontal partitions and vertical circulation, such as stairs, elevator, ramps, walls, floor, windows-doors. Using various traditional and contemporary materials.

The emergence of the modern architectural movement, causes and first buildings. Concept of Modernism and modernity. The application of smallscale interior design projects prepared with technical and aesthetic principles. Design project topics encompass human-environment relationship, physical and psychological environment, values, norms. Using manual and computer tool for the development of design solutions.

Determination of cultural entities to be conserved and analysis of historic buildings. Reasons of deterioration in historic buildings, criteria of protection and rating, restoration and restitution techniques and adaptive reuse of historic buildings. Loft design.

Developing interior working and detail drawings for selected case projects. Understanding of detail drawing preparation, selection and the use of appropriate materials together and acquiring the required presentation skills.

Computer aided advanced graphic and presentation techniques. Three dimensional modelling techniques. Creating virtual spaces, building interior and exterior environments. Virtual reality. 3D print techniques.

Considering relations between technology, function, form, space fiction for design of the study subjects design of the building sub-systems and / or selection and implementation of the integration of each other. Starting from the selection of materials, criteria relating to the design of the interior comfort of all sizes aiming to provide the highest level of performance.

Oryantasyon dersi öğrencilere üniversite hayatına uyum sürecinde ihtiyaç duyacakları akademik ve sosyal yetkinlikleri kazandırmayı hedeflemektedir. Dersi tamamlayan öğrencilerin iletişim, sosyal, profesyonel ve etik sorumluluklar gibi ilerleyen dönemlerde ve profesyonel hayatta faydalı olacak kazanımları edinmelerinin yanında, 21. Yüzyıl yetkinlikleri olarak tanımlanan yetkinlikler hakkında farkındalık kazanmaları amaçlanmaktadır. Ders, birinci sınıf bahar döneminde okutulması planlanan Kariyer Planlama dersi için giriş dersi niteliği de taşımaktadır.

Bu ders edebiyat, sinema, sanat, mimarlık, mühendislik, matematik, felsefe, siyaset, ekonomi ve benzerleri gibi alanlardaki önemli eserlerin akademik çalışmasında temel derstir. Ders, öğrencilerin dönem boyunca bu derste sunulan başlıca eserlerle tanışmalarına ve farklı alanlardaki bu önemli eserlerle kendi görüş, bakış açısı ve zevklerini geliştirmelerine yardımcı olmayı amaçlamaktadır. Öğrencilerin dönem sonunda bu farklı alanlarda ve önemli çalışmaları hakkında bağımsız, analitik ve eleştirel düşünmeyi geliştirecek akademik araçlarla donatılması beklenmektedir.

Dersin amacı öğrencilere bilimsel düşüncenin ip uçlarını vermek, bu düşünce sisteminin gelişimini hazırlayan temel olguları belirlemek, onları fizik, kimya, biyoloji biliminin temel zihinsel ve yöntemsel uygulamalarıyla karşılaştırmaktır. In this course, the aim is to equip students with the ability to approach problem formulation and solution generation through an interdisciplinary perspective. By correctly defining contemporary complex issues using the design thinking approach and theoretically addressing solution methods, the course lays the foundation for designing innovative ideas through teamwork projects developed in line with identified problems and needs. Students are expected to collaborate to produce creative and innovative solutions to today’s complex challenges.
