Student from Işık at Space Camp in the USA

The 11th Honeywell Leadership Academy was held at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, with the participation of 172 students from 25 countries, including two students from Turkey. Elfin Uçar, a student of the International Relations Department of the Faculty of Economics, Administrative, and Social Sciences at Işık University, who was one of the two Turkish students participating in the Honeywell Leadership Academy this year, returned to Turkey with unique experiences that will support her interests in STEM fields. The two-week program at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Alabama aims to help students pursue careers in STEM fields. During the program, students aged between 16-18 received education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields through practical activities in coding, computer science, and astronautics. Elfin Uçar, who found it an exciting experience to meet educators and students from all over the world, shared her thoughts about the program, saying: "During the camp, we formed teams among ourselves to design, build, and test our own rocket models. We participated in astronaut simulation training, coding programs, shuttle missions, moon walks, scientific experiments, and other unique activities. We also had the chance to meet distinguished scientists, engineers, and former astronauts. As a result of the education I received, I had the opportunity to develop my leadership skills and ability to work as part of a team. The Honeywell Leadership Academy completely changed my priorities. It inspired me about what I want to do and my future goals. My favorite thing about the program was that it combined science and engineering with friendship."
