Accreditation - Mechatronics Engineering

Accreditation and Its Importance in Mechatronics Engineering Education

Accreditation in mechatronics engineering education is the process by which independent organizations evaluate whether a program meets specific quality standards. In Turkey, the organization authorized by Higher Education Council of Turkey (YÖK) in engineering field is MÜDEK (Association for the Evaluation and Accreditation of Engineering Education Programs).

i. Basic Objectives of Accreditation

Providing quality assurance: Guarantees that educational programs comply with national and international standards.

Transparency and reliability: Provides reliable information about the quality of the program for students, families, and employers.

International recognition: MÜDEK is a member of the European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE) and has the authority to award the EUR-ACE label. This ensures that graduates are recognized in Europe for their engineering qualifications. MÜDEK is also a member of the International Engineering Alliance (IEA) accreditation network, which consists of overseas countries. In conclusion, the equivalence of a program that has received MÜDEK accreditation is also recognized by the accreditation agencies of the countries which take place in these accreditation networks.

ii. Contributions to Mechatronics Engineering Education

Adaptation to current technology: The accreditation process encourages programs to adapt to constantly evolving engineering technologies.

Employment advantage for graduates: Engineers graduating from accredited programs are seen as more qualified and reliable by employers.

Continuous improvement: Universities regularly review and improve their educational content due to accreditation necessities.

Accreditation History of Işık University Mechatronics Engineering Undergraduate Program

The Mechatronics Engineering Undergraduate Program was accredited by MÜDEK for the first time in 2022 for a period of 5 years. With this accreditation, it also gained the right to award the EUR-ACE label on diplomas of its graduates.
