The Double Major Program is an academic program that allows students enrolled in the university to obtain two separate diplomas by simultaneously taking courses from two different undergraduate programs at FMV Işık University, provided that they meet certain success conditions and other relevant requirements.
Architecture Department students who wish to pursue a double major in another department will have their applications evaluated by the relevant department's board of directors. For undergraduate majors, students can apply for a second major at the beginning of their third semester at the earliest, and at the beginning of their fifth semester at the latest. For associate majors, they can apply at the beginning of their second semester at the earliest, and at the beginning of their third semester at the latest.
To apply, the student must meet the following conditions:
Admission of architecture students to the second major diploma program is made with the approval of the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture's administrative board upon the recommendation of the relevant department where that program is run.
Students cannot enroll in more than one second major diploma program at the same time, but they can enroll in a second major diploma and a minor program at the same time.
The courses and credits required for a double major program are determined by the Council of Higher Education, taking into account the Higher Education Field Qualifications established by the Council of Higher Education, upon the recommendation of the relevant departments and faculty boards, and with the approval of the Senate. The relevant double major undergraduate program must be designed to ensure that students achieve the learning outcomes defined by the knowledge, skills, and competencies they must attain at least by the end of the program.
The double major curriculum is proposed by the department to which the second major program is affiliated, in consultation with the Department Chair of Architecture, and submitted to the Senate for approval by the Faculty Board. The double major curriculum is designed to have a total credit capacity of 240 ECTS for undergraduate programs and 120 ECTS for associate degree programs.
Some courses in the architecture curriculum can also be substituted for those in the Double Major Program curriculum. These courses are determined during the development of the Double Major Program curriculum.
The total credit of difference courses in the Double Major Program curriculum that are not in the architecture curriculum cannot be less than 60 ECTS for undergraduate programs and 30 ECTS for associate degree programs.
To graduate from a double major program, architecture students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.72 out of 4. A student's GPA in the major program may be reduced to 2.5 once throughout the entire double major program. However, students whose GPA in the architecture program falls below 2.72 for a second time will be dismissed from the second major program.
A graduation diploma can only be given to a student who is continuing his/her second major undergraduate program if he/she graduates from the architecture department, which is his/her first major diploma program.
The education period of students who have earned the right to graduate from the architecture diploma program but have not completed the second major diploma program is the maximum period specified in paragraph (c) of Article 44 of Law No. 2547, starting from the academic year in which they registered for the second major diploma program.
Students who do not take courses from the double major program for two consecutive semesters will be dismissed from the second major program.
Courses taken in the second major by students dismissed from a double major program may be substituted for required or elective courses in the first major, with the approval of the relevant academic unit's board of directors. Courses successfully completed in the second major program that are not accepted in the architecture program will be included in the transcript and diploma supplement without being included in the overall GPA.
