
Organized by the Department of Architecture within the Faculty of Art, Design, and Architecture, the “Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence in Architecture” symposium brought together representatives from academia and professional practice. Held at the Şile Campus, the event provided a platform for up-to-date discussions on the future of architecture.
As part of the symposium, expert academics and industry professionals examined the impact of artificial intelligence on design processes, the implications of digital transformation for architectural practice, and the new opportunities it creates in areas such as smart cities and creative production, adopting a multidimensional approach.
The opening speeches were delivered by Mehmet Serdar Sarıgül, Chairman of the Board of Trustees; Prof. Dr. Hasan Bülent Kahraman, Rector; Prof. Dr. Adnan Uzun, Dean of the Faculty; and Prof. Dr. Nuran Zeren Gülersoy, Head of the Department of Architecture, all of whom made valuable contributions to the event.
In the sessions held within the scope of the “Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence in Architecture” symposium, the first session featured Prof. Dr. Muhittin Gökmen, Vice Rector of MEF University and faculty member of the Department of Computer Engineering; Ömer Faruk Eriş, Senior Architect and Director General of Geographic Information Systems at the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sema Alaçam from the Department of Architecture at Istanbul Technical University; and Product Design Consultant Serdal Korkut Avcı.
The second session included Prof. Dr. Fatma Ahsen Özsoy from the Department of Architecture at Işık University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sibel Avcı Tuğal from the Department of Visual Communication Design; Prof. Dr. Özlem Sıla Durhan from the Department of Architecture; Lecturer Efe Emre Usman; Lecturer Ferhat Bulduk; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elif Süyük Makaklı; Dr. Gülay Kepsutlu; Lecturer Dicle Zeycan; and Research Assistant Raşit Eren Cangur from the Department of Architecture at Yıldız Technical University.
Throughout the day, the sessions addressed the evolving relationship between architecture and artificial intelligence through theoretical perspectives, practical applications, and interdisciplinary approaches. We extend our sincere thanks to all speakers and participants who contributed to this high-quality symposium, which supports academic production, fosters critical thinking, and illuminates the design practices of the future.
