The 2025 Nobel Prizes once again highlighted humanity’s creativity, research capacity, and intellectual depth, with awards in economics, physics, literature, and peace touching on themes closely connected to Işık University’s academic fields.
Within this scope, Işık University launched the “Perspectives on the Nobel” event series to explore works in each Nobel category from the perspective of our academics’ areas of expertise. The series sought to enrich the university’s intellectual life and to promote scientific curiosity and a culture of discussion among students and faculty.
The first talk in the series was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selda Görkey from the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences. Görkey offered a thorough assessment of innovation, creativity, and “creative destruction”, key drivers of economic growth, within the context of this year’s Nobel Prize in Economics.
The second speaker was Prof. Dr. Rabia Karakaya Polat from the Department of International Relations, Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences. Polat examined the historical evolution of the Nobel Peace Prize, shifts in the concept of peace, and the significance of the 2025 award in international relations from a multidimensional standpoint.
The third speaker in the series was our Rector, Prof. Dr. Hasan Bülent Kahraman. In his talk, Kahraman offered an in-depth analysis of the works of László Krasznahorkai who is regarded as one of the most distinctive and influential writers in contemporary literature and the winner of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature, examining the author’s aesthetic vision, literary approach, and overall significance within the context of the Nobel Prize.
Işık University continues to cultivate a vibrant academic environment that encourages scientific thinking, curiosity, and critical engagement through such events.
