The Panel “Stronger Together! Notice Violence, Say Stop!” Held at our University

25 November 2025

The panel discussion titled “Stronger Together! Notice Violence, Say Stop!” held in observance of the November 25 International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women was hosted at our university with high participation.

The panel was organized by the Commission on Combating Violence Against Women in memory of Ayşe Tokyaz, our Surgery Services Program student who passed away in July. Following opening remarks by Commission Chairperson Güneş Banu Kocatepe, the event continued with contributions from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Müzeyyen Pandır, President of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Attorney Elif Zeynep Coşgun Yıldırım, and Clinical Psychologist Gözde Ceylan, who provided an in-depth discussion of the psychological, social, and legal dimensions of violence.

The speakers illustrated, through various examples, how violence can emerge through behavioral patterns that often go unnoticed, and discussed the rights individuals possess, and the impact of awareness-raising on social transformation. The event also included an awareness workshop focusing on dating violence. Overall, the panel served as a significant step toward enhancing social awareness and sensitivity within our university community.

After the panel, a tree was planted in the garden of our Şile campus to honor the memory of our student, Ayşe Tokyaz.

We fondly commemorate our dear student Ayşe Tokyaz and reaffirm the importance of raising awareness and continuing the struggle against violence towards women.
