Overcoming Barriers with Our Light: Meaningful Activities During Awareness Week

21 May 2026

As part of May 10-16 Disability Awareness Week, various awareness-raising activities were organized at our university to support the active participation of individuals with special needs in social life.

On May 13, students with special needs from Şile 50. Yıl Multi-Program Anatolian High School were welcomed at the Şile Campus. The students attended a psychology class as guest students under the guidance of Dr. Zeynep Zeynel Bingöl, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences. Throughout the event, students from our Department of Psychology accompanied the guest students and supported their active participation in campus life. This experience allowed the students to become familiar with the university environment and experience the academic atmosphere firsthand. The event once again emphasized the importance of an inclusive approach to education, social solidarity, and increasing the visibility of individuals with disabilities in social life.

As part of Disability Awareness Week, an awareness video titled “Overcoming Barriers with Our Light” was also produced.

Within the scope of social responsibility initiatives, 10 saplings were donated on behalf of Işık University to the Kırklareli Kadıköy Memorial Forest.

Our university will continue to support the equal participation of individuals with special needs in education and social life, carry out awareness-raising initiatives, and develop inclusive projects.
