The conference titled “Rethinking the Foundation of the Republic, Political Currents, and Historiography”, organized by the Department of International Relations within the Faculty of Economics, Administrative, and Social Sciences, was held with broad participation.
Opening remarks were delivered by Prof. Dr. Aslı Şen Taşbaşı, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Administrative, and Social Sciences; Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Bülent Kahraman; and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Mehmet Serdar Sarıgül.
On the first day, panels addressed the themes of “Secularization, Religion, and Secularism,” “Memory, Representation, and Politics,” and “Feminism and Gender.”
The second day featured sessions on “Political Ideologies and the Republic,” “Sources, Archives, and New Approaches,” “Social Classes and Political Representation,” and “The Left and Historiography.”
Focusing on the founding process of the Republic of Turkey, the conference explored the political transformations of the era from multiple perspectives. Academics from various universities offered comprehensive analyses of how different political movements interpreted this process and how these interpretations have been reflected in historiography.
We extend our sincere thanks to all the speakers for their valuable contributions and to all participants for their engagement.
