Students Come From Around The World To Our Campus For International Summer School

These days, the Şile Campus is buzzing with students from the four corners of the globe. Nearly 50 students from Canada, USA, Mexico, England, Germany, Italy, Greece, Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, China, South Korea, and Australia have come to learn about Türkiye and Istanbul, and to learn Turkish.


ECO/POLS 482 Istanbul: The Crossroads of Civilization. In this course, students learn about Türkiye's history, politics, economy, social makeup, and culture. MAN 470 Business Management Disciplines exposes students to a number of topics related to work life and the economy. In addition to the sessions given by the academicians and experts that will be teaching the courses, students will also visit workplaces as well as cultural attractions. The visiting students mixing with our students will certainly bring a new level of richness and deeper understanding of the  world to both groups.


Istanbul: The Crossroads of Civilization

Dates: 30 June - 25 July, 2014
Who can participate: The program is open to all international and Turkish university students and graduates.


The Summer School program studies history from the Byzantine, Ottoman, and Early Republic periods; The Turkish economy, politics, modern Turkish society and culture; Turkish Foreign Relations; Identity and environmental politics; 16 separate topics about Istanbul art and architecture. International students will also study 24 hours of Turkish. Each week, students will take tours in and around Istanbul that are related to their courses. All courses are in English.


Conditions for the program include options for credit or without. Participants who successfully complete the course will earn 6 credits from Işık University (9 ECTS or 6 credits for students coming from outside Europe). The last day to register is 30 May, 2014.

For Turkish students, registration is for a 7-week Summer School semester. The course fees are the same as other courses, with fees charged by the credit hour.


Turkish Language and Culture

Who can join: any international students that have at least a high school diploma may sign up for the Intensive Turkish course.


Conditions for the program include options for credit or without. Participants who successfully complete the course will earn 6 credits from Işık University (9 ECTS or 6 credits for students coming from outside Europe). Each week, students will take tours in and around Istanbul that are related to their courses.
 
* Participants will take a Turkish Language placement exam at the beginning of the course.
