If you have requested a room in the campus dormitories through the Housing and Matriculation Form, International Office will forward your request to the Accommodation Department. Dormitory fees will be announced on our website shortly before the beginning of the semester. Fees can be paid upon your arrival in cash or by credit card.
Housing applications of incoming students always conclude positively, meaning all applicants are definitely given a spot in the residence halls; however, it cannot be guaranteed that the room will be your exact preference on your form.
You may check out the links for private dormitory, rental apartments and roommate offers if you plan to be accommodated at the city centre. ESN Işık mentors can assist you in finding private accommodation:

It is very crucial that your medical expenses will be covered in case of an emergency. Please keep in mind that private hospitals can be very expensive without an international health insurance! In addition, a valid health insurance throughout your stay in Turkey will be required for your residence permit applications.
If you do not hold an insurance policy valid in Turkey, you can request one via the International Office which is currently in collaboration with Securance Insurance Company. You will be asked to fill out an insurance application form and make a payment of app. 200 Turkish Liras.
University Shuttle Buses
There are daily shuttle buses operating between Şile Campus / Maslak campus and Istanbul city center. Please follow the link for the current Shuttle Schedule: http://ogrenci.isikun.edu.tr/servis-saatleri
Don't forget to double check the schedule before your arrival in Istanbul since the schedule is frequently updated. If you have a night flight, you can consider an accommodation option until shuttle buses start operating.
Public Transportation
Without a student travel card, public transportation could be quite expensive in Istanbul. You can visit the following site for the current fare information: http://www.iett.istanbul/tr/main/pages/iett-toplu-ulasim-ucret-tarifesi/42
We recommend all students to use the "Istanbulkart for Students" for a reduced fare ride on public transportation. Depending on the number of incoming students, our institution can make a bulk card application on behalf of the students.
If you are interested in learning Turkish, there are many institutions offering certified language courses for foreigners.
In addition, Erasmus / Exchange students are welcome to enroll in the course "Elementary Turkish for Foreigners" offered each semester on Şile Campus.
International Office can assist in finding a TANDEM partner to learn Turkish, as long as incoming exchange students cooperate to teach their home language in return and there is a matching partner willing to learn that language.
