Prof. Dr. Sıddık YarmanBack
Siddik Binboga Yarman was born on July 6, 1952 in Istanbul. In 1969, he graduated from Istanbul FSF Işık High School. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Electronic Engineering in 1974 from Istanbul Technical University (ITU). He, later went to the United States of America for his M.S. and doctoral degree studies and completed his graduate work at the Department of Electro-Mathematics at New Jersey's Stevens Institute of Technology (SIT) in 1978 and followed it with his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1982.
He worked as a Research and Teaching Assistant in 1974 at ITU and from 1976-1982 at SIT and Cornell University. Between 1982-1984, he worked as a doctoral researcher at RCA David Sarnoff Research Institute, Microwave Technology Center on military microwave communication issues.
Yarman returned to Turkey in 1984 and began working as an assistant professor in Engineering at Eskishehir Anadolu University, becoming an Associate Professor in 1985. Between 1988 and 1991, he worked as one of the first Technical Managers at Stfa-Savronik (Defense Electronics) within the STFA Group and further as a Deputy General Director. Moving in 1991 to Istanbul University, S.B. Yarman became a Professor in the same year. In addition to academic membership in the I.U. Engineering Faculty, between 1994-1996, he served as a President of Institute of Sciences at the Department of Defense Technologies and as a Director of Technical Sciences Vocational School.
In 1985, Yarman was named a Salzburg Fellow. In response to domestic and international scientific events, he was awarded the Tübitak Encouragement Award in 1986, the Tübitak Husain Tugaç Foundation Research Award in 1987, and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Research Award in 1987. Since 1987, He attended scientific activities as the Communications Professorship Chair of German Bochum-Ruhr University. In 1992, due to his contribution to international science and technology, he was promoted to the IEEE Senior Membership degree. In May 1994, on behalf of Turkey, he was awarded with the IEEE-Chapter of the Year by the IEEE Circuits and System Society in London.
Yarman has 4 patents which were transferred to the U.S. Air Force as well as more than 100 scientific publications at the international level. Many of his publications have been entered into the Science Citation Index. His main works have been published in textbooks in Europe, the U.S., and China. Yarman became a member of the New York Academy of Sciences in 1994.
From 1996-2004, he served as a Founding Rector at IŞIK UNIVERSITY, established by Feyziye Schools Foundation.
Prof. Dr. Sıddık B. Yarman was selected as a member of the FSF Işık University Board of Trustees on August 24, 2010 and as the President of the Board of Trustees on September 15, 2010.
