About Işık
Established in 1996, Isik University is the pride of the
deeply rooted education tradition of a 122-year old
foundation called Feyziye Mektepleri Vakfı. This foundation
started education under the name Feyz-i Sıbyan Mektebi, on
December 14, 1885 in Salonika and has witnessed an era
starting from the days of Ottoman Empire through the
foundation of the Turkish Republic, and Ataturk's reforms
and revolutions. The school got its name, Işık Lisesi, with
the approval of Atatürk, who himself was a student of Şemsi
Efendi Mektebi, one of the Feyziye Foundation schools.
Işık University was the last link in the chain of Feyziye
Foundation Schools in Nisantasi, Ayazağa and Erenköy, all of
which are in the primary and secondary education sector.
With its young and dynamic staff, equipped with the Işık
tradition, our university guides the future of our youth
with modern education concepts.
The Şile campus of Işık University houses 3 faculties, 2
institutes and research centers. The Maslak campus houses
the Faculty of Fine Arts which started education in academic
year 2007-2008. Işık University continues to provide
education facilities with its 162 faculty members to 2214
students, 1075 of which are on scholarships on varying
degrees. Işık University aims to raise individuals with
dynamic and flexible minds, prepared to adapt to the rapidly
changing global demands, capable of critical and creative
thinking, aiming to stand out on international platforms .
This is how Işık University will proceed; aiming to excell
not only in research and laboratory activities, but also in
the fields of arts, culture and sports. Enlightened by
Atatürk's principles, our path will guide modern young
people into the future with the best education they can get.
